Y’S

Y's aesthetic draws on a boldly experimental spirit. Elongated lines create a striking silhouette and hint at the label’s experimental nature. A dark colour palette is lifted by artistic prints and rich tone-on-tone embroidery. The design studio introduced other strong points of interest, among them the octagonal tie-dye technique on the gray dress and the smocking tie-dye on the ivory one that follows it. The subtle black-on-black version of the octagonal dyeing, where you can see how the fabric retained its tied star formation, had conceptual appeal. What remained were all the other pieces that uphold the Y’s identity in the absence of strong visual markers. A black dress that suggested a giant pair of pants held up by straps and the white striped shirt boasting a done-up bow brought left-field feminine touches into the minimalist mix. Y’s has offered up versions so large. This spoke far more to the accessibly highbrow spirit of the label than the slouchy gray sweater with Pink, too obviously written in pink, beaming from its back.
