Legendary conceptual label Comme des Garçons brought the Japanese avant-garde to the West in 1981, with a groundbreaking collection that introduced deconstruction, asymmetry and a monochromatic color scheme as the new paradigm of conceptual fashion. Known for their radical "anti-fashion" aesthetic, head designer Rei Kawakubo's creations remain a challenging, intellectual force that has never left the cutting edge. The Comme des Garçons Girl line approaches feminine and naïve looks with the intellectual approach of the main collection. Cardigans, pleated skirts, Peter Pan collar blouses, and shorts subvert schoolgirl style tropes with new proportions and cuts.
