Y-3 Presents its Spring/Summer 2008 Men’s & Women’s Collection
The Spring/Summer 2008 collection is inspired by Japan’s ancient history, the Samurai and Japanese Ninjas. With an emphasis on form and movement, Yohji Yamamoto’s signature design aesthetic is combined with authentic Japanese tailoring to provide a contradiction within one look. This results in the pairing of fitted women’s blouses with oversized skirts or pants for evening and voluminous jackets with slim Samurai pants for men. While this utilitarian inspiration is evident throughout the range, it possesses a technical feel on unexpected silhouettes to provide contemporary sportswear for the modern Y-3 consumer. Bold primary hues, metallic gold, silver and bronze inspired by the upcoming Beijing Olympics, and graphics incorporating the Japanese fighting weapon, the Shuriken, all contradicted the “bluesy” mood of the show with an optimistic and vibrant seasonal display.
footwear concept introduced last season, as well as parachute-inspired footwear for men. Light mesh fabrics are consistent throughout the footwear range to demonstrate the future of sports, while removable straps and studs commemorate ancient fighting gear. Metallic leather combined with linen on handbags and duffels top off the assortment.
