3.1 Phillip Lim – Spring 2016 Footwear

The footwear collection takes cues from the RTW collection in establishing a rhythm of Romantic and Cool. In designing the Spring 2016 collection, Phillip uses the polarity of Pretty/Confections and Street/Sport to temper and ignite the attributes of both themes.

A new heel construction — Drum is introduced with more nuance and flair as a segue from PS16’s Cube. Many upper ideas are in alignment with the RTW sportswear theme. The details are borrowed from construction and stitching aspects from water socks and performance aqua shoes. The sleek lines bring to mind the ergonomic lines of these sports shoes. The athletic idea temper the explicit prettiness of some of the RTW volumes and the exquisite Drum heel marries well with the Street elements.
